Chase, thanks for the comments. I’m trying to get out more often but life keeps getting in the way. Yes it’s my intention to get my PPL. Went out again on Sunday past and did a little better. just have to keep plugging away at it..

Barry. I have read every one of your entries. Our stories have similarities. I wanted to fly since I was a kid. Glasses kept me out of a military cockpit but not out of the military. Like you I completed AFROTC. I served 7 years active duty. I am still in the Reserves. Never had much money for flying until about 5 years ago. Like you I just went out and started doing it. Glad you got your medical. That’s a tough deal. Sounds like you got a lot going on as far as health. Is it your intention to get a license? You may not want to hear this from a stranger and I promise I’ll butt-out after this but: sounds like you really have the passion for aviation…the secret to becoming proficient (and safe) is getting out to the airport several times per week if your finances and schedule permits. By doing this you will move forward in your learning instead of always reviewing the basics from the last lesson. You and I both know it’s not like most people think…it’s not glamourous…it takes a lot of hard work to become a safe, proficient private pilot. And once you get your ticket you’ll have to rent or buy or–if your lucky enough–borrow a plane to STAY safe and proficient. You may have friends or family who have been pilots and can tell you what I’m about to tell you but: your first solo can change your life. When you look over and realize that it’s just you in the plane it can give you quite a start. But then you realize how few are the times in life where one gets to be so completely in control of one’s fate. It’s such a wonderful, wonderful feeling flying alone….you feel like you are the only one alive and, dare I say, you are that much closer to Him. So, get flying more often if you can, ok?? We want to see you up there!! I’m based at KHEF so we’ll see you around “campus”. Chase
